Stevie Kizziar: Go to Europe! I did an exchange during my senior year(this year) in Belgium! incredible experience!
Claude Gloden: If you go to a country where you don't know the language very well, you will spend the year learning the language and will probably not earn any credits toward graduation. This can delay your graduation, which is not necessarily a bad thing. French is NOT easier to learn than Dutch- it's quite difficult. I think you're making a mistake in not learning Spanish- it's a very useful language for working in the U.S. Many employers are looking for people who can speak Spanish and are familiar with the culture. But you would probably be most comfortable in the Netherlands, both because you speak some Dutch and because everyone there speaks really good English....Show more

Idell Dufort: Learning French is easier than Dutch. German is related to Dutch, and could be worth pursuing. Part of studying abroad is to have an adventure, learn a language fluently, learn about another country & culture. So . . . apply! Have an adventure. The public library (maybe even your school library) is your best friend. Read up on various countries - travel guides, history, arts & culture. Many libraries have language programs like Pimsleur & Rosetta Stone, so you can get started before school starts in the fall. There's so much available! You neglect to mention your age & nationality, but assuming you will be applying in the fall of 2014 for fall 2015 exchange, you've got 4-6 weeks to explore countries & see which ones interest you.Go for it! And if you end up some "strange" place you didn't expect, you'll have time to read up & study before you go. Do it!...Show more
Booker Warlick: St! udying abroad in high school is a great idea and will definite! ly set you apart from other applicants both when it comes time to apply for college and in the job market. I would recommend that you keep an open mind about wherever you go, perhaps there are advantages to legalized drugs and prostitution that aren't immediately obvious. The reason you want to go abroad is to see the benefits in doing things differently. That being said, I would recommend that you choose an accredited organization for your trip. That way you can feel secure that you will be safe and well taken care of while you are forming your opinions on all the different-ness! The Council for Standards on International Educational Travel reviews study abroad organizations based on a variety of factors and grants accreditation to those whose programs are the best organized, most educational and safest....Show more
