Home-schooling HELP ASAP?

Ayesha Genova: Well, I looked up the name you gave and that tells me you live in Iowa. First of all, you need to look up the laws for education in the state of Iowa. ("Iowa homeschool laws" would be a good place to start.) Next, I would suggest that you Google "homeschool support" plus the nearest metro area...like "Des Moines homeschool support." If you can find an active Yahoo Group, so much the better! Ask them about how to fulfill those laws, because they look pretty cumbersome. (I'm sure that's the point, to prevent you from leaving the school system.) Don't contact the Maggie Wendell person until you have a firm grasp on what's required of you and you've gotten all the information you need from the homeschooling support group. THEY have not only the information you need, but their job doesn't hinge on whether or not you stay in school. Maggie's job is to keep you enrolled no matter what....Show more

Maria Devenney: I would suggest looking online for what the l! aws are for your state. You should be fine. Every parent has the right to homeschool.I wish you all the best. good luck to your grandma, as well.

Ollie Desalvo: Never ever ask anyone at your public school about homeschooling. They rarely know anything about it and are almost always against it.You need to find out the laws for homeschooling where you live and follow any requirements in the laws. Make certain that you contact the right people instead of assuming the counselor gave you the right person to contact (if you even need to contact anyone). It is very likely you don't have to say anything to anyone. There is very likely a form to fill out.ETA: What state do you live in?...Show more

Ervin Laeger: i also asked my school about forms i can just forms to just sign and they said no the only way i can be home schooled is if i contact Maggie Wendell the lady my counselor gave me.

Enriqueta Steffen: First off, you have to realize that schools are given money ! based on attendance of students, which is why most schools don! 't like it when they lose students to home-schooling. This may explain the counselors dislike towards the subject. Second reason is that you are making the counselor work more at her job, which will automatically make her dislike the situation.Regardless of the counselor, you will need to look up the school laws where you live. Because you started the school year in a public institution, logic tells me they expect you to finish the school year. The forms and contacts they have given you are probably the way out of finishing the year without having a truancy officer (officers who find out why kids are not at school) knock on your door. This reference to "government" may simply mean following the local laws of where you live. Your mother should research the local laws first. Homeschooling parents are excellent sources of information for this, and you can probably find a local group by searching on Google or something. I would also talk to another counselor or the principle to! make sure that the counselor was giving you accurate information. Be sure to have her write down important things they say that way all the info they give you will not be lost during the (possibly) long process of getting this taken care of....Show more

Ardell Luy: I think you are confusing homeschooling and home bound education.Homeschooling is when your mom takes you out of the school system and takes responsibility for your education herself. It's all up to her... the school has nothing to do with it.It's not up to the school to "let" you homeschool.Homeschooling is your mom's choice... she doesn't ask the school. She decides to homeschool you, then follows the state homeschooling laws. The school has nothing to do with it. Home bound education is when you are still enrolled in the school and do your work from home; the school sends a teacher out to check up and bring you your work and all. This is not the same thing as homeschooling. This is something schools only! do for students who can not get to school, like for medical reasons. I! t's very expensive for them, they don't grant permission just to make someone's life a little easier. You will probably get turned down for home bound education. But homescooling is up to your mom, not your school. Don't call the number your school gave you; look up the state laws and follow them....Show more
